The GRE test (Graduate Record Examinations) is required for admission to most non-business graduate programs. It does not test any specific knowledge in business or other subjects, but measures your basic verbal, quantitative and analytical writing skills. The cost is $150 and can be taken at test centers around the country. Some programs also require the GRE Subject Test, which covers the material in a specific field (example: Psychology).
| Section | Number of Questions | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Two Verbal | 38 | 30 minutes each |
| Two Quantitative | 30 | 30 minutes each |
| Two Analytical | 25 | 30 minutes each |
| One Experimental Section | 30 minutes |
You can receive a GRE test score ranging from 200-800 for each the verbal and quantitative section, and a score ranging from 0-6 for the analytical writing section. An average GRE test score is about 500 on both the Verbal and Quantitative sections and a 4 on the Analytical Writing section. However, the score you should obtain depends on which school you are going to apply to. Usually, the higher the school ranks, the higher the GRE test score you must obtain.
You may take the GRE test once a month, but only 5 times in a year.
